しけ【時化】

1 〔海の荒れ〕 stormy [rough] weather [seas]; heavy weather (at sea); a storm.

●時化にあう[遭遇する] encounter stormy weather; be overtaken by a storm; be caught in a storm at sea.

●海は時化模様だ. The sea looks stormy.

2 〔不漁〕 scarcity of fish; a poor catch [haul]; 〔商売の不況〕 a business depression; a dull [a dead, an off] season (in trade).

●河岸(_かし)は時化だ. The fish market is slack (because of bad weather).

時化続き a long spell of poor catches.

●商売は時化続きです. Business has been depressed for a long time.
